Ease of Doing Business
The UAE Ranks 16th in the World
The UAE strengthened its position as an ideal destination for investment, as it managed to maintain an advanced ranking in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index 2020 which includes 190 countries. The country was acknowledged for its legal and regulatory reforms that support businesses, open data policy, and for making economic information available to investors with complete transparency. In addition, the UAE reached advanced positions in digital competitiveness, innovation performance and economic prosperity indicators.

The UAE Economy Indicators
Diversification of GDP
The UAE adopts a diversified economy where non-oil sectors including trade, industry, transport, real estate, information, technology and science as well as advanced service sectors such as education and health account for 70% of the total GDP. In 1971, the oil sector’s share in the GDP amounted to 90%; however, over the last fifty years, its contribution has decreased, thanks to the economic diversification strategies adopted by the country. Currently, the oil sector contributes to 30% of the total GDP.
Sectoral Distribution
The UAE is successful in its strategy to diversify its economy. Today, it is transforming into a new economy – one that is based on knowledge and innovation. The following data illustrate the level of diversity in the country’s productive structure and the importance of various economic activities in the GDP. The wholesale and retail trade and vehicles sector accounts for the largest share of the GDP, followed by the construction and building sector, then manufacturing sector and transportation and storage sector, in equal proportions.
