UAE and Saudi Arabia discuss ways to develop tourism cooperation by focusing on technological development & sustainability in tourism sector

 

H.E. Al Falasi holds meeting with Saudi Tourism Minister at Expo 2020 Dubai

 

H.E. Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and SMEs, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Ahmed Al Khateeb, Minister of Tourism of Saudi Arabia, at the Saudi pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. The two ministers discussed frameworks for developing tourism collaboration between the UAE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as ways to support this vital sector and overcome the challenges it faces. The ministers also discussed new practical steps to enhance collaboration and create new and diverse opportunities for tourism sector businesses in both countries, especially by focusing on the principles of sustainability and the technological advancement in the sector.

During the meeting, H.E. Al Falasi underlined that the UAE-Saudi relations present a unique model of bilateral relations today, as they are built on solid foundations of brotherhood between the two leaderships and the people of both countries. H.E. indicated that these unique bilateral relations represent one of the most successful aspects of joint efforts at the GCC and Arab levels. Furthermore, these relations are witnessing continuous development, driven by the two leaderships’ sincere determination to move forward in expanding the strategic partnership to cover all fields of development.

H.E. also stated that the two countries have made great strides in the past few years in unifying synergies and promoting integration in accordance with a clear vision that spans a broad range of sectors. This includes tourism, which represents one of the vital axes of cooperation between the two countries. H.E. further explained that the UAE is keen to continue cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the field of tourism in order to elevate it to advanced levels in the next stage.

In addition, H.E. Al Falasi indicated that the two countries are working closely today in an integrated manner through their membership in the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to drive tourism collaboration and regional tourism development, which in turn will benefit the tourism sectors of all countries in the region. He added that the tourism recovery efforts undertaken by the two countries present wider prospects for partnership and growth in the upcoming period and in service of the tourism exchange between the Saudi and UAE tourism markets.

H.E. Al Falasi highlighted the importance of the UAE’s hosting of Expo 2020 Dubai, as it ushered in a new phase of sustainable growth by remapping economy, trade, tourism, and partnerships between the global markets and making them more efficient, flexible, and sustainable. This contributes to supporting and expediting the economic recovery in every sector, especially the tourism sector as demonstrated by Expo 2020 Dubai becoming a main driver of tourism in the UAE by providing a unique experience for visitors. This is reflected in the growth achieved by UAE’s tourism sector since the launch of the Expo. In this context, H.E. Al Falasi affirmed the UAE government’s keenness, in line with the directives of the wise leadership, to provide full support, knowledge, and share expertise with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in its bid to host Expo 2030.

H.E. Al Falasi briefed the Saudi Minister of Tourism on the national efforts aimed at promoting UAE tourism, indicating that the country’s tourism sector has successfully consolidated its position on the global tourism landscape by achieving world-leading growth rates and occupancy rates for tourism and hotel facilities, outperforming 10 major tourist destinations in the world. H.E. also confirmed the continuity of efforts to move up higher on the international indicators for tourism and hospitality services.

The two ministers toured the pavilion of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which is the second largest pavilion at the Expo boasting three Guinness World Records for the largest interactive lighting display; longest interactive water feature, measuring 32 m; and largest LED mirror screen display: measuring 1240 m². The pavilion has been designed in the shape of a giant window that offers visitors a glimpse into the future of the Kingdom.

H.E. Al Falasi also hosted his Saudi counterpart on a tour of the UAE Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, the largest pavilion at the Expo under the theme ‘The land of dreamers who do.’ The two ministers reviewed the exhibits of the pavilion and the motifs that tell the story of the UAE as an international hub upholding the values ​​of ambition, humanity, originality, optimism and flexibility, in line with the wise leadership’s vision to create a peaceful and progressive society with ambitious plans for the future.

The UAE ranked first on the list of most preferred international tourism destinations by Saudi tourists after the UAE lifted all Covid-related international travel restrictions. The UAE received over 535,000 Saudi guests in its hotels between January and November 2021, and they spent about 1.7 million nights at the country’s hotel facilities.
