Abu Dhabi, 20 February 2025:
The Ministry of Economy has signed an agreement with Nissan Middle East to enhance collaboration in knowledge exchange and support initiatives aimed at advancing the protection of intellectual property (IP) rights. H.E. Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, witnessed the signing of the agreement by H.E. Dr. Abdulrahman Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for Intellectual Property Rights Sector at the Ministry of Economy, and Thierry Sabbagh, Vice President and Managing Director of Nissan Middle East.
This three-year partnership underscores a shared commitment to fostering an environment of innovation and creativity while ensuring comprehensive protection for intellectual property rights. The agreement will see the implementation of a series of community awareness initiatives designed to cultivate a culture of IP rights protection, raise awareness about the importance of respecting these rights, and drive progress and creativity across diverse sectors.
H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, emphasised that the UAE, driven by the vision and guidance of its wise leadership, has successfully built a comprehensive ecosystem to safeguard IP rights in line with global practices. “This ecosystem stands as a crucial foundation for building a creative and innovation-driven knowledge economy, supported by successful partnerships across all the UAE’s sectors. The agreement marks a significant step forward in strengthening the collaboration between the government and private sectors to promote creativity and safeguard IP rights for growth. It also aligns with the objectives of the ‘The Year of Community,’ particularly by nurturing skills, sponsoring talents, and encouraging innovation in key sectors for different society members,” H.E. said.
H.E. bin Touq said, “The agreement reflects the Ministry of Economy’s commitment to promoting community awareness around the protection of IP property rights, nurturing respect for them, fostering an environment of innovation, and encouraging entrepreneurs and inventors to innovate within the framework of legal structure that safeguards their concepts and innovations. The Ministry pursues this goal through diverse initiatives and programs aimed at protecting these rights and raising awareness about their significance.”
The agreement will focus on implementing a range of programs, initiatives, and events aimed at raising public awareness about the significance of IP rights. It underscores the methods for protecting these rights to safeguard the interests of innovators and creators, while also fostering respect for IP rights within the community. The agreement outlines the consequences of violating these rights and highlights the need to comply with relevant legislation. Additionally, it includes organising awareness campaigns, workshops, seminars, and exhibitions to introduce diverse sectors of society to IP rights and protection mechanisms. By doing so, it strengthens the creative ecosystem and advances innovation, emphasising the critical role of IP protection in accomplishing sustainable economic growth and enhancing competitiveness.
