Turkey is the 11th largest global trading partner of the UAE

 

 H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, visited the Turkish pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, located in the Sustainability District under the theme “We rise to the future for a sustainable world.” H.E. Minister of Economy was received by Mustafa AlkirKılıç, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in the UAE.

 

During the visit, H.E. bin Touq underlined the importance of Expo 2020 Dubai in enhancing the UAE’s status as a global destination for investments, talent, business growth and knowledge economy. The exhibition showcases the best and most innovative global solutions to create opportunities and address the challenges of the present and the future. It also serves as a dynamic platform to discuss digital economy, artificial intelligence, modern financial technologies, the 4th Industrial Revolution, modern agriculture, smart cities and sustainable development solutions to address environmental issues and climate change, support the green economy and create a sustainable future for future generations, he noted.

 

At the Turkish Pavilion, H.E. BinTouq was briefed on the exhibits, which reflect Turkey’s ancient history, and its capital, Istanbul, which has a great past and rich industrial heritage, dating back to the city’s history as the capital of three major empires: Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman. The Turkish pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai combines the civilized, cultural, technological, and other aspects, in addition to providing many cultural and folklore events and performances.

 

The Turkish pavilion features an array of products and services in several fields, such as IT, education, jewelry, woodwork, tourism, and health. It also provides visitors an opportunity to learn about several exhibits that embody the nature, unique history and cultural richness of Turkey. Apart from that, visitors have the chance to taste delicious traditional foods and practice some Turkish handicrafts.

 

Turkey is the 11th largest global trading partner of the UAE, while the UAE is Turkey's 12th largest trading partner globally. Gold and jewelry have been the most important commodities of trade exchange between the two countries over the past ten years. The Non-oil trade between the two countries in 2020 amounted to about AED 33 billion, a growth of 21 per cent compared to 2019, despite the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on global trade during this period. In the first half of 2021, the non-oil trade amounted to more than AED 26.4, reflecting a 100 per cent growth compared to the same period last year.

 

In terms of investment, the total UAE investments in Turkey amounted to about AED 18.4 billion at the end of 2020, as Emirati companies invest in many vital sectors in Turkish markets such as oil and gas, financial services, manufacturing, tourism, construction and renewable energy. Meanwhile, Turkish investments in the UAE until the beginning of 2020 amounted to more than AED 1.3 billion, spread across the fields of construction, real estate, financial sector, insurance, industry and IT sectors.
