H.E. Bin Touq: UAE and Maldives share a common vision to establish the tourism sector as a key driver of economic growth
H.E. Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, met with H.E. Thoriq Ibrahim, Maldives' Minister of Tourism and Environment, to discuss the strengthening of bilateral relations and expanding collaboration in the tourism sector. The discussions focused on leveraging the resources and opportunities possessed by both nations as well as the exchange of expertise in developing hospitality and tourism infrastructure to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of both economies.
H.E. Bin Touq highlighted that UAE-Maldives relations are based on friendship and shared developmental and economic aspirations. Both countries maintain close cooperation and a shared vision to promote the tourism sector as a cornerstone of sustainable economic development. H.E. observed that knowledge exchange and coordinated efforts in areas of hospitality and the development of tourism facilities, infrastructure and digital capabilities will unlock new investment opportunities and further strengthen both nations’ position as leading tourism destinations at regional and global levels.
H.E. said, “We are committed to strengthening our economic partnership with the Maldives, particularly in the tourism sector, given its role in supporting the national economy and delivering unique experiences that meet the expectations of visitors from around the world.” He further highlighted the importance of leveraging the extensive tourism expertise of both countries in areas of hospitality, hotels, tourism establishment management and development, and the attraction of international visitors.
The meeting explored avenues for developing joint tourism offerings, encouraging investment in the hospitality sector, and exchanging best practices in tourism marketing and destination management. Furthermore, it reviewed the latest global trends in integrating advanced technology and cutting-edge solutions into the sector to foster sustainable economic growth.
The meeting forms part of the UAE’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Maldives and expanding collaboration in key sectors that contribute to sustainable development, in line with the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision and its strategic objectives of fostering a diversified, future-ready economy.
