Product DescriptionFord Explorer
Year of Manufacturing2020-2022
Country of OriginUSA
Number of Units14
Defect DescriptionIn some of the affected vehicles, the powertrain control module (PCM) did not receive the correct calibration during Recall 22S27. The missing calibration prevents the vehicle from automatically applying the electronic parking brake in park position. If the parking brake is not applied, the loss of the primary park torque will allow the vehicle to roll increasing the risk of crash and injury. It is also possible that the rear axle mounting bolt may fracture during vehicle acceleration and move out of position, leading to severe noise and vibration. If the rear axle bolt breaks, the driveshaft/half shafts may become disconnected, resulting in loss of transmission torque to the rear wheels, which is necessary to hold the vehicle in park.
Instructions of use for preventionCustomer should contact the dealer for an appointment to reprogram the powertrain control module to the latest level.
ProcedureReprogram the powertrain control module to the latest level, at the earliest free of charge
