Competition and Consumer Protection Services - Recall of Goods

Recall of Goods

This service enables following-up the recall of defective or hazardous goods by the provider, concerned or relevant entity in the UAE, country of origin or any other country; while working to implement the recall process in the UAE.

Conditions and Requirements

    Apply for the service through the ministry’s website or e-mail according to the approved form

Required Documents

    Report on:

    • Current prices
    • Prices of the previous three years
    • Prices of alternative goods in the UAE
    • Production costs for the last three years
    • Company's balance sheet for the last three years
    • Required percentage increase in prices
    • Prices in neighbouring countries (GCC)
    • Justifications presented for price increase since the last price amendment

Steps and Procedures

    The provider must:

     

    • 01Request the attendance of the supplier, if the goods are available, or contact the authorities concerned in the UAE to ascertain availability or otherwise, in order to withdraw the product from all UAE markets.
    • 02Request the producing or importing company to publicise twice in newspapers - in both Arabic and English (provided that the size of the advertisement is 15 * 15 cm) - its withdrawal of the product from the market within a period not exceeding two weeks.
    • 03Inform MoE's Competition and Consumer Protection Department that the product has been withdrawn from the market, notify the ministry of the quantity incoming to the market and the quantity withdrawn and provide a full report on the status of the commodity recovery, including the following information:
      • Recall application form (requires audit and validation by MoE employees)
      • Approved form announcing the recall (requires audit and validation by MOE employees)
      • Photos depicting the defected goods
      • The commodity's trademark
      • Name of commodity and country of origin
      • Description of the defect
      • Instructions that must be observed by the consumer to avoid any damages resulting from using the goods
      • Instructions that must be observed by the consumer for repair, replacement and refund
      • Publication on MOE's website (Competition and Consumer Protection Department) to inform consumers, manufacturers and suppliers in the UAE of the recall, as well as to advise all relevant entities.
      • Publicize twice in newspapers - in both Arabic and English (provided that the size of the advertisement is 15 * 15 cm) - the withdrawal of the product from the market within a period not exceeding two weeks.
