Registering an Industrial Design

This service allows customers to submit an official request to the department to obtain an industrial design, to protect the industrial property rights of the shape, pattern, color, or combination of these in a two- or three-dimensional article, producing an aesthetic impression. The patent certificate is granted for 20 years. You can apply for this service by individuals, companies, or an agent's office through the website.

Service Fees

New request

  • AED 1,000 for (individuals, small and medium enterprises, and academic institutions).
  • AED 2,000 for (companies).

 

Request for a publication:

  • AED 400 for (individuals, small and medium enterprises, and academic institutions).
  • AED 800 for (companies).

 

Post-grant re-examination:

  • AED 5,000 for (individuals and companies).
  • AED 2,500 for (small and medium-sized companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, and academic institutions).

 

Appeal:

  • AED 500 for (individuals, small and medium enterprises, and academic institutions).
  • AED 1,000 for (companies).

 

Annual Fees from 1st -5th year:

  • AED 100 for (individuals, small and medium enterprises, and academic institutions).
  • AED 200 for (companies).

 

Annual Fees from 6th -10th year:

  • AED 500 for (individuals, small and medium enterprises, and academic institutions).
  • AED 1,000 for (companies).

 

Note: 

  • The applicant shall pay the annual fee at the beginning of each year of the Continuation of Protection.

Conditions and Requirements

    • The industrial design shall be new.
    • The industrial design shall not be commercially exploited if it violates public order or morals.
    • The industrial design is new unless it has been disclosed to the public, by publication, use, or any other method, before the filing date.

    Mandatory

    • Design drawings (Arabic and English). 
    • Representative drawing. 
    • Description of the design.
    • Power of Attorney (for residents outside the UAE). 

     

    Optional

    • Other documents (if any).

     

    Documents required for companies


    Mandatory

    • Design drawings (Arabic and English). 
    • Representative drawing. 
    • Description of the design.
    • Deed of Assignment.
    • Power of Attorney (for companies registered outside the UAE).
    • A copy of the valid trade license.
    • A copy of the Memorandum of Association.

    • Other documents (if any).

Steps and Procedures

    Choose the service from the list of E-Services.

  • 02

    Sign in with UAE PASS.

    Review the applicant's data by the Department to accept the request.

  • 03

    Fill in the application data and attach documents.

  • 04

    Pay the fee.

  • 05

    Conduct the formality examination.

    Ensure the correctness of the entered data and attached documents and send a message to the customer to complete the missing data (if any).

    Legal examination procedure.

    Ensure the accuracy of the entered data and attached documents, and send a message to the client to fulfill any deficiencies (if any).

    Conduct the substantive examination by the technical examiner

    Submit the research and examination report according to the technical examiner.

    Pay the publication fees.
