Request for Registering a Patent

This service allows customers to submit an official request to the department for a patent. The patent certificate is granted for 20 years and a maximum of 50 claims. You can apply for this service by individuals, companies, or an agent’s office through the website.

New request

  • AED 1,000 for (individuals, small and medium enterprises, and academic institutions).
  • AED 2,000 for (companies).

 

Request for a first examination (the first group 1-10 claims):

  • AED 7,000 for (individuals and companies).
  • AED 3,500 for (small and medium-sized companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, and academic institutions).

 

Request for a first examination (the second group 11-30 claims):

  • AED 8,000 for (individuals and companies).
  • AED 4,000 for (small and medium-sized companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, and academic institutions).

 

Request for a first examination (the third group 31-50 claims):

  • AED 9,000 for (individuals and companies).

Annual Fees from 1st -5th year:

  • AED 200 for (companies).

 

Annual Fees from 6th -10th year:

  • AED 500 for (individuals, small and medium enterprises, and academic institutions).
  • AED 1,000 for (companies).

Annual Fees from 11th -15th year:

  • AED 1,250 for (individuals, small and medium enterprises, and academic institutions).
  • AED 2,500 for (companies).

Annual Fees from 16th -20th year:

  • AED 2,000 for (individuals, small and medium enterprises, and academic institutions).
  • AED 4,000 for (companies).

 

Note: 

  • The applicant shall pay the annual fee at the beginning of each year of the Continuation of Protection.

Conditions and Requirements

    • Mandatory documents (full description, claims, and drawings if any) shall be attached – in Arabic or English– with the request. If the optional documents are not submitted, the Applicant shall be given 90 days to submit the missing documents after the notification.
    • The Applicant shall pay a penalty fee to reactivate the application once within 9 months.
    • Submitted applications shall undergo the legal examination for submitted documents and substantive examination by the Department to ensure that all patent requirements are met.
    • The applicant may request an Express Examination on the first substantive Examination.
    • The applicant may object and file a grievance against the inspector’s rejection decision within 60 days of the decision.
    • The third party may file a post-grant re-examination within 90 days from publication date.
          
    • Basic requirements for acquiring patent rights:       
      • The invention must be industrially viable  
      • The invention must be new; it must not be known to the public before the filing date.   
      • The invention must involve an inventive step.
      • The specifications must be drafted clearly with sufficient technical disclosure so that an ordinary person may understand the invention. The maximum number of claims is 50.

        Mandatory

    • Claims (Arabic, English)        
    • Detailed description (Arabic, English), and drawings, if any.
    • Deed of Assignment.
    • Power of Attorney (for companies registered outside the UAE).
    • A copy of the valid trade license.
    • A copy of the Emirates ID card.
    • A copy of the Memorandum of Association.

     

        Optional

    • Abstract (Arabic or English). 
    • A certified copy of the priority request (if any).  
    • Sequence Listing (biotech inventions) (if any).  
    • Other documents (if any).

    Fill in the application data and attach documents.

    Pay the fee.

    Ensure the correctness of the entered data and attached documents and send a message to the customer to complete the missing data (if any).
