To promote global partnerships

The UAE joins many leading regional and international organisations

The Ministry of Economy strives to build strategic partnerships with countries across the world, promoting its economic network and extending trade relations by joining many regional and international organisations and actively participating in their work. The UAE aims to create a favourable investment environment and support intra-industry trade to help businesses flourish. To achieve this vision, the country joined organisations including Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, and the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC).

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)

The Ministry of Economy follows up on GCC work and activities on multiple levels and through several committees, including the GCC Summit, the GCC Trade Cooperation Committee, as well as ministerial and technical committees.

The Economic and Social Council of the Arab League

The Economic and Social Council of the Arab League is an institution of the Arab League that is concerned with economic and social affairs for joint Arab action. The council is responsible for the formulation of the general policy for the Arab economic cooperation and integration and the development of joint strategies in this area. The Ministry of Economy cooperates and coordinates with the entities concerned in the UAE to implement related duties.

United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)

ESCWA comprises 17 Arab countries including the UAE. Its objectives are to encourage economic and social development and promote cooperation between the member countries; exchange knowledge on experiences, good practices and lessons learned among countries in the region; ensure interaction between Western Asia and other regions of the world; and familiarise the rest of the world with the circumstances and needs of the countries in the region.

The Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC)

COMCEC is one of the standing committees which the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has formed to promote economic and trade cooperation among the Islamic member States. COMCEC covers all sectors, including trade, investment, transport and agriculture. The member states join efforts to promote development by exchanging experiences and best practices.
